MISSION
STATEMENT OF CO-OPERATIVE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Co-operatives is committed to the strategic management
of human, technical, financial and other resources for the sustainable development
of co-operatives as business-oriented units in the socio economic development
of Belize.
DEPARTMENT’S OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The Department’s overall objective is to provide the
highest quality of service in the most economic, efficient, and effective
manner within the resources available.
DEPARTMENT’S SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Registration and regulation of co-operatives societies
in Belize

Providing expert and authoritative advice for
societies requesting, or in need of assistance
-
Collection and maintenance of accurate and reliable
statistics and other information on all societies for the benefit of their
members and/or the general public

Promotion sound projects for co-operatives to
ensure proper financial stability of all registered societies

Training and Education in a most, to ensure continuity
and more productive co-operative organizations

Ensuring that Societies conform to statutory,
legal and procedural requirements including the submission of monthly
financial statements, annual returns and accounts, and other requested
returns, while ensuring that the appropriate information is supplied to
members for development

Ensuring that societies benefit from the legal
and other advantages of being registered

Maintenance of a record of annual returns and
other information in order to produce data required for reports to relevant
Ministries/ House of Representative, etc.
LOGOS (INTERNATIONAL SYMBOLS FOR CO-OPERATIVES)
The co-operative emblem displays Twin Pines encircled because the pine tree
is an ancient symbol of life and the circle has the endless quality of eternity.
Two pines are shown to emphasize the mutual nature of co-operation. The trees
and the circle are dark green, which is the colour of chlorophyll, the life
principle in nature. The color within the circle is golden yellow, typifying
the sun, the giver of light and life.
